Paper Wasps

Do They Cause Damage?

They are much more docile than their large colony cousins the yellow jackets, but they will still defend the nest if disturbed and should be approached with caution. As with all bees and wasps, stings can produce a life-threating reaction in sensitive individuals.

Do I Have An Infestation?

The best indication is usually sighting the insects or their nest. Paper Wasps can build their nest in virtually any place that is protected from the weather. This includes soffits, under decks, railings, under benches and furniture, vents, light fixtures….and the list goes on! Nest are not covered and the combs are visible.

What Can Masters Touch Do?

Locating the nest is key to treating these wasps so they can be treated directly. Whenever possible, nests should be removed to prevent wasps that were absent when treatment was done from re-establishing the nest. Treatment of wasp prone areas with residual materials before nests are built in the spring can help prevent some, but not all activity.

How Can You Help?

Periodic inspections can locate nests in the early stages when they are easier to treat.

More Information

Paper Wasps are a small colony, semi-social wasp that does not have a worker cast. All wasps on the nest are fertilized Queens that assist with nest building. They do not lays eggs unless the founding/dominant Queen dies.
